The French value their language and culture highly, to the point of barely learning English even though they live right next to England. They’ve got a point, though. So a French comedian learning an entire set in Chinese is a major sign of respect.
Baima Ge, also known as Patrick Vesselier, has created a half-hour act entirely in Mandarin, which is all the more impressive for the fact that he can’t speak Mandarin.
Baima Ge may be speaking in Chinese, but his show enshrines him as the Frenchest Frenchman in history. Creating an act in Mandarin called “I Want To Be Chinese” without actually learning the language might just be the most French thing ever done.
